ASTROLOGY AND BLUE SAPPHIRE

Gemstones have been enclosed with immense powers. The powers are both mundane and celestial. Their powers were recognized as early as the inception of human history. We find testimonies to it in the ancient holy books of Jainism, the holy VEDAS, which are the oldest scriptures of India, as well as in the internationally esteemed holy book, the Bible. Besides, there are hundreds of astrological books belonging to various faiths and religions which recognize these Gemstones and attribute various worldly and heavenly virtues to them. Many astrologers and students of the ancient lore believe that each gemstone has its own personality and attributes.

‘Astrology’, as defined in the Webster’s New International Dictionary, is a science that treats of the influence of the stars upon human affairs, and of foretelling terrestrial events by their positives and aspects. Further, Astrology is the oldest of all sciences, and it is being applied in all walks of life. From time immemorial, a branch of astrology has dealt with the curative properties of various gemstones. Certain gems have wonderful healing powers. They have brought back many from the brink of death. Astrologically, people struck with misfortunes are advised to wear or possess different kinds of gems in order to counteract the effects of malefic planets.

While introducing various gemstones the relationship between nine principal planets and the nine principal gemstones along with effect of colours on human life have been discussed to some extent in the preceeding chapters. Besides, a mention has also been made about the gems of the Zodiacal and the present day birth stones. But, the question still remains unsolved as to how gemstones show such strange influence and what is the rationale behind using gemstones.

RATIONALE BEHIND USING GEMS

With the passage of time, learned people, especially astrologers and medicinemen, began to study and make experiments with gems. Experiments proved most of the hypotheses correct and it encouraged future studies; with the result, a systematic and perfect science of gemmology developed in due course of time. VARAH MIHIR, one of the greatest pioneers of the study of gems in ancient India, affirms that a gem which is endowed with great natural and supernatural powers brings good luck to some people and bad luck or disaster to others, its good or evil influence depending upon its use according to or contrary to the Zodiac.

In our planetary system the Sun occupies the central position and plays a pivotal role in maintaining and flourishing of the existence and flourishing of animate and inanimate objects of the universe. Besides the sun, the other celestial bodies are: The Moon, the Mars, the Mercury, the Jupiter, the Venus, the Saturn, the Rahu and the Ketu. They have their own colours, luminescence, rays, and speed of rotating in the universe.

Astrologically, all these nine planets have been assigned nine different gemstones and colours. JATAK-PARIJAT maintains that the sun’s gem is dark red Ruby and that of the moon is white pearl, Mars goes with red & white mixed coral, Mercury with grass green emerald, Jupiter with yellow sapphire of fair complexion, Venus goes with white diamond, and Saturn prefers blue sapphire. Rahu is represented by brown gomeda and Ketu by Cat’s eye of strange hue.

When some radiation is applied to the above listed planetary gemstones they release some power and record particular wave-lengths. At the same time various planets also record their power and wave-lengths. To understand exactly, what power is released by the gemseones, when compared with planetary vibrations, the following results will be halpful :-

All the planetary vibrations are negative, while the vibrations of the gemstones are positive. It may be noted that malefic power released by the planets is always negative, where as the power of the gemstones is always positive. When the negative meets positive, they are both neutralized.

As regards the rationale as to how the planets influence human life and how their representative gemstones augment or neutralize this influence, Dr. G.S. Kapoor says :-

“Afflictions and maladies to which human beings are prone can be broadly brought under four major groups, spiritual, mental, temporal and physical. Gems help by transmitting planetary rays in the body of the sufferer. When one opens his umbrella in the hot sun or when it is raining, the person under the umbrella is protected from the Sun’s heat and the fury of the rains. In the same manner by using corrective stones the malefic rays are deflected by it and the benefic rays are allowed to enter the body.”

Thus, we can derive the following conclusions from the study of gems and astrology :

1. The various planets have got their own colours. The  influence they exert on men depends on the different colours emanated or absorbed. Likewise, each planet rules over or is related to a gem. The colour of the planet is reflected on human body through the gem and creates an effect by absorption and reflection of the rays, and vibrations.

2. The gem acts as a filter and produces good or evil effects, depending on the need of the body. Unsuitable vibrations and the rays emanated by the planet are automatically absorbed by the gem and hence there is no evil effect.

3. All the planetary gemstones are highly sensitive and radioactive crystals and are perfect in filtering out their particular rays. On the other hand, the human body is a combination of minerals, chemicals etc. and its performance is according to proficiency or deficiency in the body of cosmic rays received from the planets. What is allotted in the shape of constitution cannot be blotted out easily, but the allotment can be adjusted and flaws and the evil influences can be checked by the prudent use of appropriate gemstone.

4. Energy of our body is nothing but another form of elements in the shape of waves and rays. The gemstones perk up the particular rays and waves and transmit it into the body lab where they are immediately transformed into elements and chemicals, as a consequence of which the body starts functioning in the right way physically and mentally.

5. When radiation is applied to gemstones, very interesting results are obtained. These are found to be the nature’s storehouse of energy and they give out constructive vibrations against the disease vibrations that are destructive in character.

ZODIAC AND THE BIRTH-STAR

Astrology clearly explains that the zodiac is of 360 degrees, divided into twelve signs of 30 degrees each. All the planets are in constant motion i.e. clockwise motion round the zodiac. Sometimes planets also appear to have backward motion which is due to the relative position and motion of the earth. The sun and the moon are never retrograde in backward motion. Other planets have definite moments of their backward motion within the period of a year.

The moment one is born, the planets enter into the body through one’s first breath. One's fate is determined by the location of the heavenly bodies at that time (moment) and the same will guide his destiny. If beneficial effects occupy angles or trines as well as oriental earthier side of the zodiac, the native may get early success in life. If malefic powers occupy any of the evil houses viz. 6 th , 8 th , 9 th , 12 th , the native makes little headway in his life.

THE ROLE OF THE MOON

The moon is called the mother of the universe. It is a very important planet in every one’s life. Unafflicted Moon in a birth chart is a blessing in disguise. If the Moon is afflicted by Saturn or Rahu in a birth-chart, life becomes hell. It may, however, protect you all through life in case you strengthen mother moon’s hands by wearing gems for her. It is said that the Moon governs the first seven years of man’s life. This means that the moon controls all children and her strong influence during childhood can be easily felt.

THE BIRTH-STARS (GRAHAS)

The constellation in which the Moon is posited in one’s birth chart is known as his birth-star. The birth-star plays an important role in shaping one’s fate and destiny. Each planet governs three stars as under :-

Usually three stars occupy each sign of the zodiac and by knowing the birth-star the ‘dasa’ or the position of the planet could be ascertained in which one is born. By wearing a proper gemstone, one can strengthen the arms of the ruling planets of his birth-star and may become free from all diseases and possess sound health and happiness in life.

Every birth-star has got its particular nature and effect at a particular angle i.e. house in the zodiac. The houses 6, 8, 12 are called evil houses or dusthamas. Planets posited therein are weakened and lose their power and strength considerably.

Similarly Moon and the Venus in the 6 th and 8 th house, Mercury Astrology and Blue Sapphire / 52.in 6, 8 and 12 th house, Mars and Rahu in 2, 8, 9 th , Sun or Ketu in 5, 7, 8 th house cause different types of troubles and weaknesses which can only be overcome by wearing appropriate gems for them. The simple and basic principle of astrology is that you should fulfil the following two requirements :

1. Wear the gem of ruling planet for birth-star.

2. Wear the gem for planets, posited in 6 th , 8 th and 12 th  houses.

By following this rule, one can realize the wonder magic of astrology.

We have already mentioned selected lucky-stones for the zodiac and the birth stones for various months in the introductory chapter of this book.

THE SATURN AND THE BLUE SAPPHIRE

Each gemstone is supposed to possess certain powers as bringer of luck, particularly if it also happens to be wearer’s birth stone. Blue Sapphire is the gemstone for the Saturn. Saturn is a very very powerful planet. By nature it is regarded as a barren, binding, cold, constant, dry, defensive, hard, nervous and secretive planet. An evil Saturn may cause delay, it can deny, it may disappoint. Disharmony, dispute, difficulty, despondency, dejection and differences are also the outcome of an evil Saturn.

On the other hand, plodding, preserving, patiently working, prudence, frugality, economy, saving, endurance, industry, thrift, power to keep secrets, stability, self control, sense of duty etc. have been attributed to a beneficial Saturn.

Persons born under the influence of a malefic Saturn are generally lethargic and idle. Diseases caused by an ill-placed or evil Saturn are impediments of the right ear, troubles of the teeth, fevers and pains caused by cold, leprosy, consumption, black-jaundice, deafness, insanity, stammering, dumbness, colic, paralysis, depression and diseases caused by anxiety.

EFFECTS OF BIRTH-STARS GOVERNED BY SATURN

Saturn is the ruler planet of three stars, viz. Pushyam-8, Anuradha-17, and Uttar-bhadrapada-26. The nature of these stars as birth stars and their positions in the zodiac may be explained as under :

8. PUSHYAM-CANCER – 3.30 O TO 16.40 O

Diseases : Consumption, gastric ulcer, respiratory troubles, gallstones, obstruction in the bowels, jaundice, eczema.

Nature : Prudent, economical, sober, careful and attentive.

17. ANURADHA-SCORPIO – 3-20 O TO 16-44 O

Diseases : Menstrual troubles, constipation, piles, sore throat, stomach troubles.

Nature : Fond of travel, grave, cruel, vindictive and dishonest.

26. UTTAR-BHADRAPADA

Diseases : Toothache, fevers, smallpox, rheumatism, consumption, dropsy.

Nature : Sick wife, trouble through children, desire to help the poor and invalid.

ROLE OF SATURN IN RELATION TO OTHER PLANETS

1. Mercury and Venus are the friendly planets of Saturn. The Sun, the Moon and the Mars are hostile to it.

2. Blue Sapphire is the appropriate gem for the persons born between 23 September to 22 October.

3. One rolls in money if Saturn occupies Jupitar’s signs i.e. Sagittarius and Pisces; but this will fail if Saturn occupies the 8 th and 12 th houses from the ascendent.

4. Saturn in Leo or Cancer makes one poor.

5. If Saturn afflicts the Moon, it is a bad testimony and makes the native poor.

6. Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn become extremely powerful during retrogation. Saturn in retrogation may not only cause miseries and physical disabilities but also may appear to be a great Yog-karak (helpful) and give notably good results.

7. Saturn becomes extremely powerful if posited in the western side of the zodiac. Saturn if posited in the ascendant (especially in the eastern side) in a birth chart causes havoc. Since, the malefic planets in retrogation will always give bad results, Saturn becomes too weak and utterly powerless if posited in the eastern side.

8. If the Moon and Saturn together are placed in one house, it would make the native very rich and wealthy provided they are found in angles or in trines. At the same time, it makes one patient, persistent, steady, continuous and concentrated.

The combination of Mars and Saturn is a very bad union. It causes frequent accidents, makes one very quarrelsome, poor and landless. But, if unafflicted, this conjunction makes one bold and courageous with stony nerves, gives the native force and character.

The union of Mercury and Saturn gives too many physical ailments, but, this union also bestows the native with steadiness, carefulness, good judgement, precision, good memory etc. This combination also gives will, perseverance, patience, persistence and determination to fulfil one’s desire.

When Jupiter and Saturn combine, one becomes very rich, wealthy and prosperous in life. It makes one grave, studious, careful, inquisitive, pious, respectful, honest and conservative. But, this union brings forth a male child and gives impotency, cancer and nausea at the same time.

Venus and Saturn, when combined and found in angles in trines gives fertile imagination, steadiness, honesty and sincerity. The native will hold a responsible position of trust.

But, the nature of Saturn and Rahu is a very evil union and gives various chronic ailments.

HOW TO USE SAPPHIRE ?

Astrologers clearly opine that the planetary forces can be mastered by concentrating on their characteristic symbols.

The influence of a planet can be magically captured through the use of things which are directly linked with that particular planet. For example, beneficial rays of Saturn are absolutely essential for higher studies and research work. We know, sapphire is the gem of Saturn, hence this is required to be used duly fitted in lead or silver only during the time when Saturn comes at Libra (its exalted sign) during its movement. It will then be possible to capture the magical powers of Saturn most effectively.

DAYS AND HOURS GOVERNED BY PLANETS

Another way to capture planetary influences in an effective manner is to wear the gem on the day and in the hour of the appropriate planet. Each day and each hour has its planetary ruler. Sunday is ruled by the Sun, Monday by the Moon, Tuesday by Mars, Wednesday by Mercury, Thursday by Jupiter, Friday by Venus and Saturday by Saturn. The planet which rules the day rules the first hour after sunrise and the succeeding hours of day-light are ruled by the other planets in the following order:

1. Sun            2. Venus          3. Mercury

4. Moon        5. Saturn          6. Jupiter

7. Mars

The first hour after sunset is ruled by the planet which is 5 th in order from the planet which rules the day.

WEARING A RING OF SAPPHIRE

A planet is said to possess maximum power when it comes  in the ascendant or 10 th house during transit. In order to attract and summon greater magical influence of sapphire, a ring of lead silver should be made during that time. Again, it should be set in with 3 to 4 carats sapphire and worn on Saturday at the time as indicated above. It may be noted that before wearing the ring should be dipped in raw milk at least for three hours in order to remove impurities.

This point should always be borne in mind that the medicinal property of sapphire is extremely cold, hence, in no case its weight should exceed 4 carats. It is further advisable that Ruby, Cat’s eye and Sapphire should not be used without proper advice from an expert astrologer.

SELECTION OF FINGERS FOR THE USE OF GEMS

Each finger is directly connected with the specified parts of the body. For instance, the little finger has got direct connection with the private parts, reproductive system, knees, legs and feet. For curing diseases of these parts, gems are required to be worn strictly on this finger. Again, each finger is under the domain of one specific planet.

First finger (Terjani): It is also called the index finger or fore-finger. It is under the control of Jupiter. Medically it stands for the respiratory system and the stomach. Gems for the Moon, Mars and Jupiter are worn on this finger. Yellow sapphire, moonstone, white pearl may also be worn on this finger.

Second finger (Madhyama): The middle finger is under  the direct control of Saturn. Medically it stands for the mind, brain, liver and mental structure. Gems for Mercury, Rahu and Venus may be worn on it, as they are friends of Saturn. Emerald, gomedha, moonstone, sapphire, white pearl, diamond and white zircon are also worn on this finger.

Third finger (Anamika): The sun rules over this finger. It stands for the happier side of life. Medically it represents the kidneys, stomach, generative system and blood circulation. Gems for Jupiter, Mars, Ketu may be worn on it. Ruby, Red coral Cat’s eye, white pearl, moonstone, yellow sapphire and topaz may be worn on this finger.

Fourth finger (Kanistha): The little finger is under the direct control of Mercury. Medically it represents private parts, legs, knees etc. Gems for Saturn and Rahu may be worn on this finger as they are friends of Mercury. Sapphire, gomedha, lapis-lazuli may be worn on the fourth finger. The thumb has got no utility for wearing any type of gems.

SOME PRECIOUS POINTS TO BE BORNE IN MIND

Astrology is a very vast subject dealing with so many scientific causes and their effects. The foregoing discussion presents a broad outline of Gems, astrology and the use of sapphire. To achieve better results, it is advisable to use appropriate gems only after a deep study of all the astrological points under the proper guidance of some expert astrologer. Drifting away from the right astrological path may prove much harmful to the native.

The Gem (sapphire) being used must be of a very fine quality, brilliance, unblemished form and also faultless and. transparent. A lower class sapphire bearing flaws within may be accompanied by drastic and evil consequences.
